Dr. Mahdi M. Al-Kaisi is a professor Emeritus of soil physics (soil
management/environment), Department of Agronomy, Iowa State University,
Ames, Iowa.

His research focuses on the effects of crops and tillage systems, crop residue,
cover crops, and nitrogen application on soil carbon dynamics, carbon
sequestration, greenhouse gas emissions, and ecosystem services. He studied the
interaction effects of agriculture management practices and environmental factors
such as, weather and landscape spatial variabilities on soil organic carbon
sequestration, system sustainability, and productivity.

As a result of his research, he has developed field calculators to assess soil
management practices impacts, such as, tillage, crop residue, and crop rotation on
soil health. He developed soil carbon index for soils in Iowa. He has published his
research in national and international refereed journal articles and Extension and
outreach publications that are widely used by national and international scientists,
farmers, agronomists and students. He shared his science and expertise in
numerous presentations in national and international conferences and wrote
articles and blogs to state and national agriculture journals/media.

Dr. Al-Kaisi is a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy, the Soil Science
Society of America, and Soil and Water Conservation Society.
